Live Import is currently in Public Beta, please report any issues related to the usage of Live Import to Aivia.Support [at] leica-microsystems.com.

Live Import is a function that lets you import, convert and display 2D or 3D images in Aivia as they are being acquired on the microscope.

Requirements

  • A microscope with attached acquisition hardware

  • Aivia 7.5 or later

  • A fast storage drive (such as an SSD) with sufficient storage space for Aivia internal cache plus full acquisition dataset

  • Optional - A second fast storage drive for storing the full acquisition dataset

Step-by-step guide

Tip

Follow the Live Import best practices to help streamline the Live Import setup process

1. Create a blank acquisition folder on your storage device for the experiment.

2. Point your acquisition software to save acquired images to the acquisition folder you just created.

Note

Disable or turn off any subfolder creation options in your acquisition software. Acquired files should be saved at the root of the specified acquisition folder.

3. Write down the expected image dimensions (X, Y, Z-slices, time points, number of channels and image bit-depth) for reference.

4. Go to Aivia and click on File Start Live Import to launch the Live Import window

Warning

Do not start the acquisition routine on your microscope until Live Import is active; starting acquisition prior to starting Live Import may lead to improperly formatted results.

5. Click on the Browse

icon Image Removed to

icon to the right of the Import Folder textbox, select the acquisition folder in the Import Folder dialog, and click Select Folder.

6. In the Live Import window, enter the image dimensions for your acquisition into their respective fields.

Info

The Fusion option is available for single-channel acquisitions on dual-view microscopes only.

Note

Make sure the image dimensions specified match the dimensions of the acquisition output. Mismatched image dimensions may lead to a malformed result image.

7. Once you have verified that all the pertinent image-dimension information is correct, you can click Start to initiate Live Import mode in Aivia. 3D mode will be automatically enabled when you start Live Import for a an image with multiple Z-slices.

8. Begin your image acquisition protocol and start acquiring and saving images to the specified acquisition folder.
